of the school system. It is a response to the demand for quality basic elementary
education all over the State.
Objectives: SSA is being implemented in partnership with the Centre and the
State to cover all states and union territories. The programme seeks to open new
schools in those habitations which do not have schooling facilities and strengthen
existing school infrastructure through provision of additional classrooms, toilets,
drinking water facilities and grants to schools. SSA has a special focus on girls'
education and children with special needs.
